Emma van Halsema is an artist and fabricator utilizing her love for history and storytelling through miniature fabrication and painting. Emma has worked over 10 years in Portland’s stop motion animation industry with studios such as LAIKA, Netflix, and HOUSESpecial. Away from the shooting floor, she uses her skills to dive into plein air and gouache painting as well as nostalgic miniature fabrication. Emma uses stories of the past to inspire her art, whether in 2 or 3 dimensions. Emma has been a part of various solo and group shows in and around Portland, OR. In 2024 she completed an Artist in Residence program at Wildacres Retreat in NC and was awarded an artist residency at Oasis Cabin Resort in Maupin, OR and the Sou’Wester in Seaview, WA in early 2026. Most recently, Emma worked as a set dresser on LAIKA’s newest film Wildwood, coming to theaters late 2026.
