Nathan Mckee knows Portland. He grew up here, became an artist here, and is now raising his family here.

Oldish Portland is part homage, part record, and part love letter to a version of the city that is constantly changing. Nathan’s work pulls from the people, places, characters, and peculiar little details that make Portland feel like Portland — or, at least, the Portland he remembers.

For those who have been here long enough to remember, the work may stir up a particular kind of nostalgia: familiar places, old haunts, strange characters, and a city that somehow always felt a little more weird around the edges.

For newer residents, it offers a glimpse into the Portland that came before them — a wacky, scrappy town of artists, baristas, designers, musicians, makers, hustlers, and everyone in between.

Because cities change. Neighborhoods change. People move on. And eventually, somebody has to remember what it looked like before it disappeared.

Violet Aveline is constantly looking for new ways to push her art into storytelling. Every piece she creates is a way of telling a story, whether drawn from tales of the past or the bits of gossamer dreamed up in the middle of the night.

Her work has been described as a neon-palette vignette into destruction — art that acts as a parable for the force of creation that rises in spite of destruction and decay. Her latest obsession is cowgirls and you'll be seeing a lot of them in this show. Saddle up!
